I dare you!

Dear friends,

Today, Ash Wednesday, we entered into the Lenten Season, one of the most powerful and remarkable seasons of the year. As we embark on this spiritual journey in which we encounter the Lord Jesus more closely, I invite you to come closer to His poor, His BELOVED poor in Haiti.

Today I was discussing the Lenten fast requirements for Catholics with some of my brother priests and realized that some people in Haiti are in a year-round Lent where they fast every day. These people do not know where the next meal will come from. Just tonight, I spoke to a mother and her two sons who came to the rectory because they did not have food. Thank God we had some that we could share with them. But can you imagine what it must be like to not know how you will feed your children next week?

As you may know, during this Lenten season the Church invites us to enter more deeply into the life of Christ through a three-fold penance of praying, fasting, and almsgiving.

Could I invite you to practice these to the benefit of the Haitian people? In other words:

Pray: Pray at least one Our Father for the Beloved Haitian people every day during Lent

Fast: When you fast, think about those who “force-fast” every day due to lack of food. Also, offer up your fast to God as a prayer to better their lives

Almsgiving: Set aside at least $1 a day during Lent to donate to Mission to The Beloved to help us continue to minister to God’s Beloved people every day.

Share your possessions with the less fortunate. Share this message with the more fortunate!

I invite you into this Lenten challenge!

I dare you!

Fr. Louis
